Over the past week or so, we have had a couple of times where heavy rain has caused people to be anxious about flooding and water coming into their homes.

To try and help, you might want to plan ahead to make sure that you have taken steps to protect your home:

- Clear out your guttering and downpipes (if you have them)

- Clean your drains / soakaways (if you have them)

- Consider talking to neighbours about clearing any drains on the highways (we are working with the Highways Department to try and get these done - they often wait until the leaves have all dropped, so likely to be later in the year).

- Have a plan in case water does come in - move things upstairs if you can, or place things on boxes / bricks / stands to help avoid them getting wet (check https://www.gov.uk/gover.../publications/personal-flood-plan for how to make a personal flood plan)

We have also been asked about sandbags. We don't have a supply of sandbags and we believe that MKCC are no longer giving these out. You may wish to consider getting something that would work for you - sandbags, hydrosnakes, barriers are all options depending on your situation.

Woughton Community Council has some resources that can help in the event of flooding - wet/ dry vacuums, dehumidifiers, large brooms, shovels, drain rods, etc. but these are mainly for helping after flooding, rather than being able to prevent flooding.

It does seem that the weather is changing and that what used to be unusual is now fairly common. Given this, planning ahead, having a clear idea of what you need and having it in place is going to help you protect your home.
