Coming soon!
In autumn 2026 Woughton Community Council will be launching our Youth Council!
Our Youth Council will give a voice to the young people in our community - so that our youth have a genuine say in how we run our services in the parish. The Youth Council will also run their own campaigns and projects specifically for young people in Woughton.
What is a Youth Council?
A Youth Council is a group of young people who live in the local area, who provide a collective voice for the local youth community. Through representing young people's concerns and hopes, and running projects to benefit our youth, the Youth Council helps improve life for young people in the parish.
Just like the adult council, the Youth Council will have formal documents which they will create to set out how they will operate and who will do what. They will elect a "Chair" to lead them, and a "Vice Chair" to be the Chair's deputy. They will also choose an Admin Lead and a Finance Lead to help take minutes and manage the budgets. They will have a budget allocated by Woughton Community Council for their own youth-focused campaigns and projects to benefit the local youth community.
The Youth Council will meet regularly, and the person who becomes the "Chair" of the Youth Council will also attend adult council meetings. They will be the youth representative at the adult council meetings and will update the adult Council with what the Youth Council has been doing.
What's involved?
The Youth Council will be open to young people in year 7 and above, up to their 19th birthday (up to 25 with SEND) who live in the Woughton parish.
There will also be space on the Youth Council for a representative from each of the main education providers in Woughton (MK College Chaffron Way, St Paul’s Catholic School and MK Academy) who don't have to live in the parish to join.
We will run 5 short training sessions through autumn and winter 2026 where young people will learn all about local government and politics; engaging with the youth community; representing their views; running successful meetings, and budgeting for projects.
In spring 2027 we will form our founding Youth Council! Youth Councillors will meet together once a month, as well as running their own events, campaigns and projects. Youth Councillors will be on the Youth Council for 2 years.
What's in it for you?
Youth Councillors will:
Meet lots of people and make new friends!
Gain skills in public speaking, debating, leadership, budgeting and teamworking.
Learn about politics and local government.
Have something really amazing to put on their CVs and future job or course applications.
