The Wheelie Big Picnic took place on 21st August 2024 and saw hundreds of people enjoy a whole range of cycling and scooting activities in the wonderful venue of Two Halls Park.
The Woughton Community Council Team were joined by Cycle Saviours, MK City Council 'Get Around' team, the brilliant Dirt Factory 'Pump Track' crew and Mayor to celebrate sustainble travel, cycling for fun and opportunties to explore the parish on wheels!
With Councillor Marie Bradburn, the Mayor of Milton Keynes, officially opening the event (and enjoying cycling round the routes), children, families and adults from across the area came down, got repairs completed by Cycle Saviours, learned about the benefits of cycling and the great cycling routes from the 'Get Around MK' team, were able to 'bling' their bikes with the Youth Team, try out the pump track as well as having a picnic lunch and enjoying the inflatable rings. Cycling Citizens MK were also in attendance, helping to promote the benefits of cycling.
Alonsgide the biking, we also opened the Community Garden for the food and smoothie bikes, where the Mayor also visited to have a look around. The Community Garden Team, alongside environment officers, showed people around and introduced this great new resource for the parish, complete with log cabin, polytunnel and composting toilet.
Good news stories from the day:

• at least three little ones learnt to ride a bike.
• Some adults rode a bike for the first time in decades.
• Two residents have been enrolled on the lend an E Bike scheme, to get them cycling
• Three adults have signed up for Cycle training.
• Two adults are being referred through a cycling scheme to receive a funded bicycle to enable access to employment and improved health.
• People of all ages completed questionnaires which will provide us with valuable data to enable change where needed to benefit residents
• There is potential for funding for a permanent pump track to be installed on parish in the future.
• We look forward to supporting / hosting the Mayor's end of year Cycling festival next spring.

A huge thank you to everyone who was involved in pulling the event together, supporting the event on the day and for coming and taking part. We hope that this will be the first of many events like this, where we support the people of the parish to get on their bikes and scooters and explore the area and the wider city.

Special thanks to:
