Councillor Kevin Wilson MBE

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Cllr Kevin Wilson, who passed away yesterday afternoon (7th May 2019). Cllr Wilson had been unwell for some time and despite the treatment and support from the NHS that he supported so passionately and his stubborn determination to go when he was good and ready, his body refused to comply with his spirit and determination.

Kevin first became a Parish Councillor back in 1983 with Woughton Parish Council and served there, with the new Woughton Community Council and with Milton Keynes Council. He was a member of many consultatory boards, represented both the parish and the wider city at regional and national level and never lost his determination to see improvements and inclusivity across all areas. With a focus on reducing inequality, a passion for local governance and decision making and an ability to retain the strangest bits of knowledge in a mind that was astonishingly quick, his never-ending energy drove his colleagues and organisations forward.

Cllr Wilson was well respected across the political spectrum and was a staunch advocate for democracy. His influence on the very local councils (parish, town and community) has led to a strong sector within Milton Keynes (one of the few fully parished urban areas) and his support is felt widely through his work with the National Association of Local Councils, the Cooperative Councils Network and his lobbying of national government to promote and protect the sector. His support in the creation of parish councils across Milton Keynes and his continued work to increase their role will be a significant legacy for the city.

Our thoughts are with his wife Pam, his family and those closest to him who, alongside his work, knew him as someone who doted on his grandchildren, enjoyed Saturdays at the MK Dons and never ever turned down the chance of a good debate.

He will be missed by people across the parish, the city and the sector.
