Woughton Parish Council held its first ever Charity Ball on Friday 27th November at the Mercure Parkside Hotel in Woughton on the Green.

The idea for this event came from Parish Cllr Sue Smith who thought it would be a great way of not only showing some of the work that the Council does but also of raising much needed money for local charities.

The 2 charities that were chosen this year were the Neo Natal unit at Milton Keynes hospital and Willen Hospice.

Many organisations donated raffle prizes and services for which Woughton Parish Council were extremely grateful, these included The Mercure Parkside hotel who donated the rooms and a subsidised dinner.

Sky Line taxis who gave£1 for every ride that was booked to the venue and home again. Local residents sought and donated goods from their places of work, even Milton Keynes Council sponsored a table.

Many local people also gave up there time which included Footprints Dance Troup from Coffee Hall, Garry Smith who was the master of ceremonies.

The Business card man who provided all the advertising materials, Bookmeadisco who provided the music into the early hours of the morning and finally Councillor Kevin Wilson and Councillor Donna Coventry who had a sponsored talk off!

The ball was attended by distinguished guests including Local MP Dr Phyllis Starkey and her Husband, Hugh. The Chair of Milton Keynes General Hospital, Mr Walter Greaves with his wife, as well as members of the nursing staff from the Neo natal unit.
The evening was extremely well supported and had in excess of 120 guests who between them raised approximately £600 which now will be donated to the 2 charities.
Councillor Sue Smith who spent many hours and sleepless nights organising the event said, “It was so nice to see that so many people not only from the Parish Council but organisations from across the city as well as large numbers of local residents spent their time and money in helping both the Neo Natal Unit and Willen Hospice, we now hope to make this an annual event. Woughton Parish Council would like to say a great big thank you to every one who helped in making this event such a memorable and fun night”
